Club Synopsis: Founded in 2012, the Economics Club consists of students who wish to learn more about the complex economy in which they live. The club has informal meetings every Thursday during PAWS in room 409. During these meetings, the club discusses current events and economic concepts, invests in the Stock Market Game, and prepares for the annual Treasurer’s Cup Competition.
About The Stock Market Game: Students are given $100,000 of fake money to invest in the real stock market. You may buy and sell stocks, bonds, and mutual funds as you please. Winning students are recognized at the school and state level with prizes for the top performers.
About The Treasurer's Cup: This all day event at the Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier is sponsored by the Office of the Treasurer and local banks, and includes 10+ area high schools competing in an economic-themed quiz bowl. Winning participants receive a $500 savings bond with other prizes are awarded throughout the day. MMU won in 2015, finished 2nd in 2016, and won again in 2017. To date we have won more than $7,500! Come help us defend our title in 2018 by joining the Economics Club.
